Police - Basij Interaction in Security Crime Prevention

Getting help from the community as a policy for crime prevention has been developed in recent years. One principle is to use Basij forces. They are the political system and cultural norms of the community that determine how and to what extent Basij and police can be co-contributor. Although crimes violate security in general, some particular crimes violate security clearly. Namely, these later crimes relate directly to national security and public safety. This study aims to explore how police and Basij can prevent security crimes cooperatively. It is an applied research gathered data through descriptive and survey methods. Using a questionnaire, researchers collected views of Basij and police forces in Western Azerbaijan province, Iran. Stratified sampling devoted 128 (from 200), 107 (from 150) person to Basij and police groups respectively. Research findings indicated that police and Basij cooperated effectively to prevent security crimes (urban unrests). It is also stressed that promoting thinking and Basij culture, institutional partnership, and legal protection of contributor's participation had been have a significant role in security crimes prevention in general and urban unrests in particular.
