Dendritic Polymers: Physical Properties and Their Application in Polymer Blends

Abstract:
Dendritic polymers are a new class of highly branched macromolecules that have received a large amount of attention recently due to their particular properties. The uniqueness of these 3-dimensional polymers is related to the ability to control their size, shape, molecular weight, topology, and surface chemistry to an extent unprec-edented in polymer science. Globular shape, unentanglment structure and a lot of terminal groups on the surface of molecule, are the important properties of these polymer structures. These properties cause main difference between these structures and similar linear polymers. Among special feature of dendritic polymers, the capability of situation of terminal groups, makes dendritic polymers suitable for their improvement role in polymer blends. Dendritic polymers divided into three groups. Dendrimers, dendrigrafts and hyperbranched polymers are these groups and the hyperbrenched polymers have the greatest application in industreis such as paint and coating and printing inks. In this paper, addition to investigate the properties of dendritic polymers, we explain about the effect of these structures on the rheological and curing properties of polymer blends.
