The Study of Watershed Earth Dam Stability Projects in Piping Process: A Case study of Boshkezy dam, South Khorasan Province

The study and prediction of stability of structure against different environmental tensions is a prerequisite in application of different water structures. Semi rigid foundation of earth dam and creation of piping in dam walls were caused predicting and monitoring of these structures in a maximum level is important. So that the most expenditure in constructing of earth dams، after the consolidation of spillways، is related to decrease and control of flow lines in these dams. The aim of present research is the study of stability of Kalateh Boshkezy earth dam as watershed earth practice against the piping phenomenon. In this regard، from beginning of the project، were calculated characteristics of each layer like thickness، compaction and soil texture. Next the dam was modeled by using Geo-Slope office software in maximum risk condition (maximum water level in dam). Result showed that according to selected materials and compaction in dam، if dam have maximum water level in the first filling of dam، the possibility of piping would arise. For stability of dam، was recommended the using of horizontal drainage and annual field controlling in the first filling
