Investigation of the Interfacial Fracture Toughness of the bond between Artificial Tooth Base and Dentistry Cements

Message:
Abstract:
In this paper, an attempt was made for obtaining toughness of interfacial fracture in adhesively bonded joints used in dentistry by means of fracture mechanics. Production of different cements in dentistry caused researchers trying to get the various properties of the cements. In this paper by using the finite element results, correction factors have been obtained for the stress intensity factors of modified version of Arcan specimen. By using correction factors and critical forces obtained from experimental results in angles 0, 45 and 90 degrees, toughness of interfacial fracture for adhesively bonded joints were obtained. The modified glass-inomer Xeno cem-plus(XCP) and resin composite Master-Dent were as adhesives and the powder of cold SR Triplex was as an adherend. Experimental results revealed that strength of adhesively bonded joints with modified glass-inomer XCP was more than resin composite Master-Dent. Average critical Interfacial stress intensity factors of pure mode-I and pure mode-II of the Composite resin and Xeno cem-plus adhesive joints were found as KIC = 126975.9 [Pa.m1/2] and KIC = 440070.7 [Pa.m1/2], and KIIC= 305929.4 [Pa.m1/2] and KIIC= 382095.7 [Pa.m1/2], respectively.
