Sociological Explanation of the Relationship between Social Capital and Athlete's Healthy Lifestyle (regarding nutritional performance)

Abstract:
Nowadays, Social Capital is one of the most popular concepts in sociological studies. Some intellects do believe that social capital is one of the most important factors that plays a significant role in individual's success to achieve their goals. Therefore, the main purpose of this research is to investigate the relationship between social capital and athletes’ healthy lifestyle regarding theirnutritional performance. To meet this main goal, theoretical framework and hypotheses of the research set on the basis of James Coleman’s theory. Statistical population of the research include 2300 athletes in Beheshti University’s Olympiad. Using Morgan’s table and stratified sampling method a sample consisting of 310 people were selected from the population. The research method is survey and the main tool for collecting data is questionnaire. The research findings indicate that social capital has positive and significant influence on athletes’ healthy lifestyle. In other words, the more athletes benefit social capital, the more their healthy lifestyle improves.
