A Critical Approach: Criticism of Research and Reading Methods in Islamic Art Studies

This paper aims to study and review the main approaches to Islamic art studies and strives to present a new theory in this field of study. Hence, a critical and descriptive methodology has been followed equipped with library and documentation research. In this paper, features contributing to the marginalization of concepts such as power, art, culture and ideologies of meaning are criticized in art studies of Islamic periods. Accordingly, the methods theorized as the outcome of the research and analysis of texts written by the authors of this paper, the method of theosophical- Imaginary readings are critically analyzed. The findings of this research imply that the common approach in the study of Islamic art studies in the domain of subjective analysis, descriptive and interpretative research methods consist of introspective features that have subsided from hidden and effective discourses in explaining the cultural meaning of Islamic art from outside the circle of this specific research field and fail to have a strong scientific methodology. Hence, Para Islamic Art discourse theory and also the new classification methodological research approaches for studying Islamic art are among the other outcomes of this research paper.
