Social-Cultural Factors in Forming District in Iranian-Islamic City and its Functions

Abstract:
District as a social colony was a place for civilians to live. This social unit that used to be the base of Iranian-Muslim societies presented the structure of ancient cities in a different form. There have been political-administrative, economic and social-cultural factors that made grow and from a district in a city. Obviously, the social and cultural factors are important because of the direct contact with social features and cultural-flourishing of a district. A district developed in the Iranian-Islamic city, functioning in that structure. It could be studied in two aforementioned aspects. Historical study and analysing of forming the district and its function could be useful in studying urban relations of Iran in Islamic period. This article by a quick review of the trend of emergence of a district in Iranian-Islamic city and comparing that with barzan in ancient Iran, has studied the main factors and social and cultural functions of the district.
