The relationships of emotional expressiveness, positive affect, and negative affect with dark triad personality traits (Machiavellianism, narcissism, Psychopathy)

In recent years, there has been increased interest in a set of traits which are referred as dark triad personality traits including Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships of emotional expressiveness, positive and negative affect with dark triad personality traits.
In this descriptive correlational study, 300 students based on multi-stage cluster sampling from the Urmia University were selected. Then, in order to examine the goals and hypotheses of the study, dark triad traits scale, emotional expressiveness questionnaire, and positive affect and negative affect scale were distributed to the participants. Collected data were analyzed by descriptive indicators, correlation coefficients, simultaneous multiple regression, and independent t-test.
Our findings showed that there were negative relationships between most components of emotional expressiveness and all three traits Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy which were significant for psychopathy and Machiavellianism traits (p People with high scores on the traits of Machiavellianism and psychopathy, are more likely to show defects in expressing and understanding of emotional information. It seems that women are more sensitive emotionally, and more prone to emotion.
