The Impact of Shihaboddin Yahya Sohrawardi on Nasiroddin Tusi's Theory of God's Knowledge to the World

Abstract:
The present paper compares Nasiroddin Tusi’s theory of God’s knowledge to the world with that of Shihaboddin Yahya Sohrawardi’s being concerned with the impact of the former on the latter in the doctrine which caused the peripatetic theosopher to appear in this theory, neither as a theologian, nor a peripatetic philosopher, but as an ‘illuminative theosopher’ who accepts explicitly ‘God’s knowledge by presence to the world’, in spite of the peripatetic philosophers’ opinion. It states Tusi’s critiques the peripatetic philosophers’ theory of knowledge and his special doctrine in this regard, comparing them with Sohrawardi’s critiques on their theory and his specific doctrine in that regard in order to making clear that to what extent Tusi has been under the influence of Sohrawardi in both parts separately, and to what extent the former’s expressions and reasons can be adapted to those of the latter. As a result, Sohrawardi seems to be more important in the theory of knowledge than Tusi.
