The Procedures Used in the Translation of Movement Image Schemata Metaphors of Nahj-Ul-Balaghe

Metaphor translation and its challenges have always been among the problems of translation and religious text translation. In this paper, having taken a cognitive semantics stand into translation, the author tries to investigate which procedures- among ten procedures used by Al-Harrasi (2000)-are the most common ones in the translation of movement image schemata of Nahj-Ul-Balaghe. Moreover, how the reasons of using this (or these) procedure(s) could be examined. In addition, what the difference(s) (if any) between Persian and English translations is (are). To achieve this goal, all Movement Image Schemata Metaphors of Nahj-Ul-Balaghe are identified and the equivalents of these metaphors in the selected English and Persian texts have been analyzed. It has been observed that in all translations, either English or Persian, metaphors have been translated and in most cases, the third procedure has been used. In other words, the same rich image in Arabic text has been translated into English and Persian. When the translators don’t use this procedure, they have used a different rich image that belongs to the same image schema- forth procedure- or another metaphorical procedure. This shows that MT, if considered from a cognitive view, is not much problematic as before. Moreover, this theory can deal with the challenges and problems of the previous theories by using image schemas. In addition, the five selected translations were able to transfer the same metaphors to the target text relatively well.
