Objective
: Gastroenteritis caused by salmonella is common in humans as a public health problem in the world. The aim of the current study was, detection of agfA and mgtC genes in the Salmonella Typhimurium strains isolated from stool samples using multiplex- PCR method and determination of their antibiotic resistance patterns.
Methods
This cross-sectional study on Salmonella typhimurium isolated from children with gastroenteritis admitted to Children's Medical Center of Tehran. Multiplex-PCR using the gene frequency was evaluated by agfA and mgtC . As well as using the gel diffusion method according to CLSI guidelines antibiotic susceptibility of these isolates were studied.
FINDINGS: Of 200 stool collected samples, 60 (30%) Salmonella Typhimurium isolates were obtained. Molecular analysis showed that 24 isolates simultaneously possess both genes were agfA and mgtC. the 52 isolates carries mgtC gene and 40 were have agfA gene. Determination of antibiotic susceptibility pattern in this case is that all isolates (100%) were sensitive to the Ciprofloxacin. So, 85% strains were resistance to nitrofurantoin..
CONCLUSTON: The study concludes that the most frequent virulence genes in these strains, mgtC with the (86/6%) and the lowest prevalence of virulence genes, agfA to the (66/6%) . Result that was above isolates were susceptible to ciprofloxacin 100% and the most resistant to nitrofurantoin was 85%.
