Effect of Women-centered Group Counseling on Premenstrual Syndrome and Student's Psychological Well-being

Abstract:
Background And Aim
Attention to women's mental health shows the importance psychology in the field of mental health. This study aimed to investigate the effect of woman-centered group counseling on premenstrual syndrome and cognitive well-being of the students suffering from premenstrual syndrome.
Methods
This pre experimental pretest-posttest with control group study was conducted on 288 dormitorie's students selected by convenient sampling in Shahid Beheshti University. After Screening and interviewing, 40 of them were randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups. The instruments were daily record of severity of problems (DRSP) and psychological well-being questionnaires.
Findings: The results showed that women-centered group psychotherapy was effective in reducing the symptoms of premenstrual Syndrome (F=333.27, P
Conclusion
The results of this study can be helpful for the counselors and health expert in improving mental health of students with premenstrual symptoms, and also for enhancing their self-efficacy and academic achievement.
