Nutritional statusand associated factorsinelderly hospitalized incardiac care unit

Introduction and Nutrition is an important determinant of health in elderly patients. the nutritional status has been recognized role in a variety of morbid conditions including cancer, heart disease, and dementia in elderly people. This study was designed to assess nutritional status and its related factors among the elderly hospitalized in cardiac care unit.
A descriptive analytical study was conducted on a quota sample of 254 elderly patients (60 years and older) with cardiovascular disease who admitted incardiac care unithospitals. The data collection tool was Mini nutritional assessment (MNA) questionnaires. Data was analysed with SPSS 20 and descriptive and inferential statistical tests were performed with 95%.
Findings: The findings showed that 16.9% suffered malnutrition, 37.4% were at risk of malnutrition and in 45.7% nutritional status was satisfactory. There were significants relationship between nutrition and demographic factors and health status.).pvalue Malnutrition is common in hospitalized elderly and threat their health status, so hospital officials should try identify people at risk and prevention risk of malnutrition.
