Nurse's perception in Tehran of Elder Abuse

Introduction and The number of elderly people has increased and according to estimates by the World Health Organization the number of elderly will rise more than 22% in 2050. By increasing in the elderly population the rate of challenges related to this group such as elder abuse will be increased too. This study aimed with” nurse's perception in Tehran of elder abuse.”
This Cross-sectional study was performed by convenience sampling during February and March 2014 with a sample of 400 nurses. The study population consisted nurses working in emergency departments affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran. A researcher-made questionnaire was used with content validity and reliability by Cronbach's alpha (α =82%).SPSS version 13 was used to analyze the data. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze the data.
Findings: The finding of this study indicated that, the mean ± SD age of the nursing was 40. 127.05 respectively. The elder abuse perception among nurse was about the financial and sexual elder abuse had the highest rate.
The nurses spend the most time with elderly rather than the other health care team and they are maybe the first people dealing with patients. It is necessary to know more about elder abuse and its type.
