Comparison of fatty acids profiles in the muscles, liver and carcass of wild and cultured Benni, Mesopotamichthys sharpeyi

The composition of fatty acids of the muscles, liver and carcass of wild and cultured Mesopotamichthys sharpeyi were determined by gas-liquid chromatography. In all the samples studied, the principle saturated fatty acids (SFA) and Monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) were palmitic (C16:0) and oleic (C18:1n-9) acids respectively. The results showed that cultured fish muscle and liver contained a higher level of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), particularly docosahexaenoic acids (DHA), eicosapentaenoic acids (EPA) and arachidonic acid (ARA) (p
