Urban settlements and the safety of women in the public Space, Case Study: Sabzevar city

Abstract:
The prerequisite of development is feeling social security in any society. This is more important when we are talking about vulnerable groups like women. The purpose of this paper is the study of factors affecting women social security in public spaces and neighborhoods at the age of 18-65. This is an applied research and method is survey. Findings show that within factors such as individual characteristics, socio-economic status, place attachment; age of women, birthplace, marriage status, and education have a significant relationship with women’s safety sense in public spaces. Women that are younger, born in urban area, married, and higher educated have higher safety sense in public spaces. Factors that affecting safety sense in neighborhoods are education, place attachment and residence region. Women with lower education, with higher place attachment and women live in older neighborhoods feel higher safety. Finally we conclude that the zone of residence is one of the most important factor of feeling safety for women in neighborhood and the oldness of urban zone is another important factor of dependent variable.
