Applying Space Syntax Method to Evaluation of Urban Development Projects

Space Syntax is an analysis method employed to study the relationship between different urban elements or spatial organization and social structure. It could be used for both evaluating practical solutions and describing social phenomena. This paper reports the application of this method in a morphological study undertaken in District 19 of Tehran City. The overall integration in spatial organization of Tehran metropolitan area and District 19 is evaluated and a set of highly integrated urban spaces are determined. In conclusion, the prerequisites for a successful application of the Space Syntax method in urban studies are mentioned.
