The Effect of Integrative Social and Emotional Learning Program on Student's Psycho-social Competencies

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to explore the effects of integrative Social and Emotional Learning Program on Student's Psycho-social Competencies. In this study we focused on five accepted competences suggested by CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning).
Methodology
fifth and sixth grade kids at elementary schools in Saghez has been chosen as control (n=62) and experimental (n=92), based on Quasi-Experimental intact groups and whole school approach method. The psycho-social skills have been instructed for 14 sessions (45 minutes). Zhou and Ee's (2012) Social- Emotional Questionnaire was used to probe the results.
Results
the data was analyzed by multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA). The intervention showed the significant differences in self-awareness and self- control between the control and experimental groups, but there were no significant differences in social- awareness, social control and responsible decision making.
Conclusion
based on these findings, concerning mental disorders and whole child development and wellbeing, student's psychosocial competencies would improve, hopefully.
