Predicting the Level of Combatant's Readiness to Carry out Military Missions Using a Hidden Markov Model

Given the necessity of combatants’ allout readiness to carry out military missions, this paper deals with exploring the relationship between biorhythm and individuals’ level of preparedness. The purpose of this paper is to predict individuals’ level of readiness for carrying out military missions using a hidden Markov model.
Bearing in mind the cycles of individual biorhythm, these factors were modeled on the hidden Markov model. In this model, according to the level of physical, intellectual, emotional, and intuitive readiness, every individual will be in one of the specified states of the model at a specified time; thus, combatants’ level of readiness for carrying out military missions can be predicted on the basis of this model.
The results of this study suggest that there is a coincidence between the theoretical and mathematical principles presented in this paper and the views of the respondents who were 30 military experts. Based on the results of this research, when needed, not only a military commander, but also combatants themselves can determine their level of readiness by asking a few simple questions. By doing so, readiness or lack of readiness for carrying out a specific mission is projected.
At present, our combatants have a single mission whereas, in advanced armies in the world, individuals receive various trainings and they are entrusted with appropriate missions at specified times on the basis of their physical, intellectual, and emotional conditions. Given the four biorhythms -- physical, emotional, intellectual, and intuitive -- in this paper, we have defined 16 missions the most appropriate of which is given to combatants by the commander by referring to the hidden Markov model.
