Comparing Administrative characteristics of male and female Librarians in Tehran's Universities

Abstract:
Purpose
The main purpose of this study is to compare the characteristics of male and female librarians in the public universities located in Tehran.
Method
A descriptive survey method was used for this study. Sample population for the study was 56 managers and 104 staff in the libraries Kharazmi University, Science and Technology University, Amir Kabir University and Tehran University.
Results
In the performance of the managers, only control and evaluation as components of management were different among males and females. Other components were found to have no meaningful difference. In performance. Also, motivation and management styles were different among the male and female staffs. Job satisfaction showed to be higher among male managers. Library managers on the whole believe that they are performing their tasks in a good level, but the staffs believe they are performing in a medium level.
