The mediator role of self-esteem in the relationship between time perspective and quality of life

Aim: The aim of current study was to determine the mediator role of self-esteem in the relationship between time perspective and quality of life of students.
The study design was descriptive correlational type and the statistic population included of all students of Azad Islamic University, Share Ghods branch in 2014-2015 semester with the quantity of 35000 subject, which through them 251 people were selected through multistage sampling. The study tools were including WHOQOL-BREF (1996), Time Perspective Inventory by Zimbardo and Boyd (1999) and Eysenck self-esteem questionnaire (1976). The obtained data was analyzed by structural equation modeling.
The data revealed that self-esteem mediates the effect of negative-past time perspective (β=-0.180, P0.001) and present fatalistic time perspective (β=-0.088, P0.042) dimensions on quality of life negatively and the effect of positive-past time perspective (β=0.156, P0.001) and future time perspective (β=0.134, P0.001) dimensions on quality of life positively.
The findings of this study can be concluded, time perspective by providing objectives and programs and optimism causes to worth and self-esteem of the people and subsequently the quality of life gets better.
