Construction and Validation of Metacognition Questionnaire

Message:
Abstract:
Background and subject: This study aimed to investigate the reliability and validity of metacognition questionnaire.
Materials And Methods
The population consisted of all students in Ferdowsi University in Mashhad. Using convenience sampling method, 344 students were selected as sample. The face and content validity (experts’ opinions) and structural validity (exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis) were investigated to validate the questionnaire; the Cronbach's alpha was used to investigate the reliability.
Findings: Three factors (cognitive-emotional awareness, lack of cognitive-emotional ambiguity, and strategy) were determined in factor analysis. Considering the Cronbach's alpha coefficient, it was determined that the questionnaire had appropriate reliability. The high correlation between subscales and total scale score showed that all of them together measured a unit behavioral field called metacognition.
Conclusion
The findings showed that the different metacognition theories may be used to create a more comprehensive metacognition questionnaire which would measure both cognitive and emotional aspects of metacognition.
