Snails fauna identification of Roodan river in Hormozgan province

Abstract:
Collection and identification snails of Roodan river in Hormozgan province in Iran has been investigated in 2013-2014. For the first time, 25 species identified in Roodan river in Hormozgan, which they belong to 16 genera from 12 families. Identification was done according to morphometric characters including shape, size of shell, dextral and sinistral position of the shell, operculum, aperture, radula, mucus colour and amount, respiratory pore, keel, renal ridge and reproduction system. The most and least diversity among identified snail species are 18 and 9 species belong to 3 and 7 stations respectively from Roodan river, which they are 116 kilometers away from each other. Thiaridae with 5 species Melanopsis praemorsa ¡ Melanopsis costata ¡ Melanopsis doriae , Thiara scabra and Melanoides tuberculata and Lymnaeidae with 5 species Lymnaea truncatula, Lymnaea auricularia, Lymnaea gedrosiana, Lymnaea rufescens and Lymnaea luteola are most common and diversified. Lymnaea truncatula is identified as the most frequent and has medical importance. Physa gyrina and Lymnaea luteola species are reported for the first time from Iran.
