Materialistic-post Materialistic Value Orientation and The timing of marriage (Case study: Men and women in the Threshold of marriage in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-ahmad province)

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of value orientation on the timing of marriage in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad. The population of this survey are those visiting medical examination center before marriage in the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Province. The theoretical framework of this study is derived from the theory of cultural change and value of Inglehart. The results showed value changes have significant effect on the timing of marriage for both sexes. Among the variables for women, education, occupation, place of residence and socioeconomic status are significantly correlated with timing of marriage. But for men, only employment status is significantly related to the timing of marriage. The results of multivariate regression analysis shows that for women by controlling other variables, education, occupation and value orientation variables and for men, value orientation and employment status variables have continued to maintain a significant effect. To solve the problem of marriage and its timing, policy makers, while providing structural conditions for marriage, must seek ways to change negative attitudes toward marriage at a younger age which is known as an obstacle to their progress.
