Survey of barriers and potential field to involve local people in the forest management process (Case study: Local Communities in Nameshir, Baneh)

Abstract:
History of forest management planning in Zagros indicates that forest management goals have not been achieved. Lack of social acceptance of these plans by local communities is considered as the main reason of this problem. Public participation can help to solve this problem. This paper aims to determine barriers of public participation in Nameshir district of Baneh in Zagros forests. For this goal, 186 of local people were surveyed by a questionnaire method. Analyses of data showed majority of households are dependent on forestry products. Analysis of Local people opinions indicated that lack of local people involvement in forest management, ignoring of traditional knowledge in planning, high dependence of people on forest and willing to manage forest are more affecting factors that limit participation of people in forest management.
