Relationship between Information Literacy and Health Literacy: A Case Study of Staff Working in the Regional Information Center for Science and Technology

The main objective of the study was to investigate the relationship between information literacy skills and health literacy skills of staff working in the Regional Information Center for Science and Technology.
A descriptive- correlation survey method has been used in this study. For data collection, two questionnaires have been used. The population of the study included all 103 staff of the Regional Information Center for Science and Technology, Shiraz, Iran. Based on the simple random sampling method and with use of Krejcie and Morgan table, 80 employees were selected as the study sample. For data analysis and hypotheses testing, one-sample T test and Pearson correlation test have been used with the help of SPSS 22.
FINDINGS: Results showed that the rate of staff's information literacy skills and health literacy skills has been higher than average. Also, there is a significantly positive relationship between staff's information literacy skills and their health literacy skills.
According to the research findings, it seems that to increase health literacy and obtain reliable information on health issues as well as the evaluation, interpretation and use of this information, it is necessary to increase information literacy skills. Therefore, providing suitable training courses in this area is inevitable.
