Espionage Operations of (former) Soviet in Iran Based on the Autobiography of Georg Aghabekov in years 1926-1928

In Fall 1930, the Iranian police detected a large espionage network of Soviet Union in Iran. The magnitude of this espionage network was so vast that puzzled the Iranian ruling government. Most members of this network were employees of Iranian ministries including Ministry of Post, Foreign Ministry, War Ministry and other governmental offices. There were even important and famous figures in the list of suspects such as Teymourtash, the Minister of Court, who was under suspicious as being a member of that network. Discovery of this organization had a great impact on the relationship of the two countries and the Iranian government considered that behavior hostile act, and viewed at its northern neighbor with suspicious. One of the main actors of that organization was Aghabekov from Soviet Turkestan who had already assigned with the importantmission of combatting Basmachi Movement in Central Asia and succeeded inending the movement by eliminating Anvar Pasha. He was promoted in his rank for his achievement and later, he was dispatched to Afghanistan. This paper has employed historical researches and by using analytical- defining methods through literature review studied and analyzed the process of Aghabekov’s presence in Iran, his espionage operations, discovering Soviet Espionage network in Iran and its effects in the history of the relationship between the two countries.
