Lutis and Urban Unrest in the Naseri Era

Abstract:
Luti tradition, as a decayed legacy of chivalry, became important in Qajar period, and the Lutis played an important role in the social and political life of Qajar Iran. Their major role in the conflict of the Constitutional Revolution represents this importance. In the social realm, this group had a decisive and effective factor in the occurrence of unrest, insecurity, and urban thefts. The political and social conditions of the Qajar Dynasty and the Nasiri era intensified the connection of the Lutis with the centers of power, their influence and power in the neighborhoods, their group solidarity, as well as the personal characteristics of the Lutis, including boldness and frivolity, their serial activities.
Investigating the context and background of these insecure activities of Lutis during the Naseri era, this article tried to explain the impact of these activities on urban disruptions as well as their types and quality.
