The relationship between lifestyle and nutritional patterns with self-esteem and mental health in secondary school girl students

Abstract:
Background And Aim
Mental health and self-esteem are psychological phenomena that have long been considered by psychologists, doctors and religious scholars and are influenced by a set of social and cognitive factors. The overall aim of this study was to determine the relationship between lifestyle and nutritional patterns with self-esteem and mental health in high school girl students in Tehran in 1396.
Methods in this descriptive-analytical study, a multi-stage sampling study was conducted in collaboration with 140 female high school students in Tehran, who were educated in the academic year of 96-95, from Miller & Smith Life Style Questionnaires, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, Feed Frequency Questionnaire and Goldberg General Health Scale (GHQ) were used. The present study is a correlation-descriptive study which was performed by Pearson correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis and Fisher's test, data analysis.
Results
There was a significant relationship between self-esteem and nutritional patterns at the level of 0.05. Also, there is a significant relationship between self-esteem and lifestyle and mental health at 0.01 level. There is a significant relationship between lifestyle and mental health. Life style variables and nutritional patterns can statistically predict the variables of self-esteem. Given that variable beta coefficient of lifestyle (506.0) is more, lifestyle predicts self-esteem more than nutritional patterns.
Conclusion
Good and diverse nutrition and healthy health behaviors are one of the most important bases for student's health. It is essential for students to design and program appropriate education in order to have a healthy lifestyle and individual care for students.
