The Relationship between Competitive Strategy and Financial Performance of Commercial Banks Accepted in Tehran Stock Exchange

Banking industry is experiencing a huge development in Iran. The view of increasing the competence in this industry, moving toward economic independence and approaching to international markets in future, making situations in that strategic planning is so important for banks. So it's clear that efficiency of trading banks in Iran become a reality when competitive strategies adopted conveniently by an organization. The purpose of this research is recognizing the connection between competitive strategy and financial performance of trading banks in stock market of Tehran. For this purpose, strategies of 7 trading bank were recognized by standard questionnaire of Conant et.al (1990) and then their connection with financial performance was evaluated. The method of this research is descriptive and variance analysis is used for determining the relation between competitive strategies and financial performance. Finally, results show a meaningful relation between competitive strategy and two aspects of three aspects of financial performance (including profit and stock returns) in sample banks. It was observed that there is not a meaningful difference between return on investment of banks based on the type of strategy.
