Signs of media literacy non-awareness

Author(s):
Abstract:
The book “media literacy and semiotic awareness” written by Elliot Gaines, attempted to show how the films and the serials could or did not succeed in analyzing the signs; using examples from number of news and television series in the US. How did they form their messages? What techniques have been used to convey these messages to their audience? And how do you get the meaning of explicit or implicit messages, or self-conscious or semi-conscious? In general, the intention of the present book is to find how communication processes works in everyday life and how media percepts, in order to gain a proper and effective understanding. However due to the inconsistencies in content and dispersion, the author of the book, in spite of his attempt to identify semiotic dimensions, failed at his project; and in particular its rugged translation decrease the quality of book in a way that, in some cases, the subject matter, media literacy has been marginalized and even forgotten. While Gaines could draw the art of semiotics in his book, and instead of scattering he could say much by fewest signs, but never did so.
