Investigating the Effect of the Intimacy Relationship Skills on Marital Adjustment

Marital adjustment is one of the most important factors affecting family performance. According to Communicational approaches having and teaching of communication skills, play a great role in enhancing marital adjustment and decreasing of intimate relationships problems. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the practical application of intimacy relationship skills (PAIRS) on the marital adjustment.
The research method was semi-experimental and its design was a pretest-posttest with the control group. The statistical population consisted of women who were referred to intervention the center of individual, familial and sociological crises of the Bojnord city in 2017 due to maladjustment and marital conflicts The sample consisted of 26 volunteers who were selected using available sampling method and randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups (each group of 13). Information gathering instrument was Spanier dyadic questionnaire that completed by each two group in before and after the intervention. Experiment group participated in eight two-hour sessions of PAIRS and the control group no received the intervention. Multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) and Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used to analyze the data. Data analysis was performed using the SPSS-24 software.
Research findings show PAIRS is effective in enhancing the marital adjustment (F=108.72) and dimensions of satisfaction (F=35.84), cohesion (F=80.60), consensus (F=36.48) and affection expression (F=12.35), (p PAIRS improves the marital adjustment. Accordingly, suggested that take advantage of PAIRS to improving the marital relationships and enhancing their marital adjustment.
