Analysis of the Nature of Political and Intellectual Movement of Ibn-Tabataba

After the movement of Imam Husayn (AS), many varying uprisings occurred with the intention of avenging the blood of Imam Husayn (AS) and opposing the government; all under the slogans of Islam and Shiism. One of the most important movements was the movement of Ibn Tabataba that was led by Abu al-Sirayeh towards the end of the second century AH. However, an important issue that must be answered is that what was the political and intellectual nature of this movement? Can it be identified as a Shia movement that followed the Imam (AS)? In examining the nature of this movement and whether or not it can called a Shia movement, five criteria were taken into consideration so that the relationship between this movement with the Infallible Imam of that era can be clarified and as a result, an academic and precise evaluation can be made about the relationship between the movement and the Imam. Other criteria were used to identify the Islamic and religious or sociological angles of this movement. By examining all these criteria, the academic and sociological status as well as the goals, slogans, causes and gains of this movement can be clarified.
