Investigation on the Environmental Health Status of Primary and Middle Schools of Abdanan City (Ilam) in 2016

School is a safe place in the upbringing of persons and play a quite significant role in providing a healthy and cheerful life and training healthy people. Childhood is a quite sensitive period of the life, and children spend a relatively large amount of their time at school. Therefore, in this study the environmental health status of primary and guidance schools of Abdanan city (Ilam) in 2016 was investigated.
The sampling of this descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted by the census method. In this study, a number of 14 governmental (state) primary and guidance schools were surveyed. To accomplish of this research, the school health assessment environmental checklist prepared by the Ministry of Health and Medical Education was completed through direct observation. The data was then analyzed using Excel 2007 software.
The results showed that the schools in most cases were in desirable conditions in terms of collection and disposal of wastewater and solid waste;71 percent of these schools had adequate distance between drinking water sets and water closets and in 50 percent of the schools, unhygienic foods were not served. However, most of the schools had no warning signboards and the size of the bench and table was not proportionate to the physical dimensions of the students.
Based on these results, 61.93 percent of the studied schools had favorable health status in terms of the environmental health. The conditions of the number of toilets and drinking water sets should be urgently taken supervisions.
