The Study of Environmental Health Status of Male Student Dormitories of Ilam University of Medical Sciences in 2017

Student dormitories play a substantial role in the physical, mental and academic well-being of the students. Therefore, these places should be appropriate in the view of health and safety so that students in this environment can easily do their work. The purpose of this study was to survey the health status of male dormitories of Ilam University of Medical Sciences in 2017.
This descriptive cross-sectional study was designed and implemented using a checklist prepared on the basis of environmental standards of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education in the dormitory of male students (3 dormitories) of Ilam University of Medical Sciences. Also, in the assessment of the health status of dormitory rooms, sampling was done randomly. The data was analyzed by Excel 2007 software.
The study showed that the highest percentage of students (53%) had an age range of 20-30 years. The highest score was related to the health of dormitory buildings. In this study, 3 dormitories named Boostan 1, 2, and 3 were investigated. All three dormitories were in terms of health and compliance with health regulations with a score of 71.01, 49.85, and 67.14% respectively.
Based on the findings, Bostan 2 dormitory had more positive points and less defects than other dormitories (77.71%). Bostan 1 and 3 dormitories need more attentions to reach health indicators. Considering that students, dormitories are considered one of the most important and noticeable places, where the health problems of the studied dormitories should be dissolved.
