Abstract:
Some have criticized Sa’di Shirāzi for being the poet of Abbasid caliphate, for being sad about the downfall of the Abbasid’s kingdom and hence for composing some poems in praise of the last Abbasid caliph in both Arabic and Persian languages.
In the present paper, the author focuses on the analysis and explanation of the aforementioned subject. In his opinion, the Iranians of Sa’di’s era did not consider the Abbasid caliphate as an alien government. Moreover, in the early centuries of the caliphate, the masses of Iranian people did not have sympathy with and interest in the movements which were rising against the government. Rather, the common belief among the masses was the legitimacy of the caliphate system, especially the Abbasid caliphate
