Identifying Barriers to Commercialization of Researches in Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (AREEO) Using Grounded Theory

Commercialization of research and knowledge is an inevitable activity to offset the cost of research and development (R&D) in the public and private research centers of the country which will help the country’s development and its competitiveness in all industries especially in advanced industries in addition to providing investment opportunities. The purpose of this study was to identify barriers to commercialization of research in AREEO. Grounded theory was used in this study as a research method. The data were gathered using a semi-structured interview and an open questionnaire with a sample of 25 faculty members of AREEO and subsidiary research centers and institute. Using open coding for the context of the interviews, 84 conceptual propositions were extracted about the barriers to the advancement of research commercialization in research, education and extension organization. The Concepts grouped in 14 categories and four groups within the coding hierarchy of grounded theory including basic and strategic barriers, organizational and structural barriers, human barriers and market barriers each of them represent an aspect of subject.
