Foundationalism

Foundationalism in one of the epistemological views on the nature of the knowledge and justification. This view considers the knowledge and justification as having two levels. In one level we have some basic believes that are justified without derivation from other believes. In the other level we have some derivative knowledge which is justified by the derivation of other believes. Most of the famous philosophers such as Aristotle, Aquinas and Descartes, hold this view. We will study critically the different versions of foundationalism.
