The Impact of Physical-spatial (Architectural) Elements on Citizens’ Place Attachment in the Bazaar of Tabriz

Bazaar is one of the most important urban elements within the city. It has had several significant economic, social, political and cultural roles in history. So, this study examines the impact of this valuable urban element and its relationship with citizens’ attachment to place. To identify cultural values that are the appearance of historical-cultural heritage of our country; the effective steps can be taken by planning for regeneration and promotion of the functions of this collection in different social dimensions. Some main questions on this article are: 1) what are systematic principles of forming physical-spatial (architectural) elements in bazaar complex structure such as Tabriz bazaar? 2) What is the relationship between physical-spatial elements in Tabriz bazaar complex and citizens’ attachment to place? This study identifies these elements by exploratory factor analysis and investigates the relationship between them by confirmatory factor analysis. In this study, architectural systematic principles in Tabriz bazaar complex, geometry, hierarchy and symmetry are recognized for the first time as the factors influencing citizens’ attachment to place. Among the important findings of this study, the results of confirmatory factor analysis and Goodness-of-fit index resulting from measurement models are mentioned; the designed measurement models can be well fitted by the observed data, and the four mentioned dimensions are considered as exact indicators to measure the structure of attachment to place. This subject confirms the first hypothesis and confirmatory factor analysis conducted on physical elements also indicates a good reliability of the elements introduced in the measurement of physical- spatial variable.
