Evaluation and Comparison of Performance Indicators in Hospitals of East Azerbaijan Province with the Same Standards of Ministry of Health

Performance indicators are one of the important factors in indicating the efficiency and productivity state. This study aimed to evaluate and compare hospital performance indicators with the same standards of Ministry of Health in East Azerbaijan, Northwest of Iran. This is a descriptive cross-sectional study in 2015. The study population included all hospitals in East Azerbaijan province. Data were collected using a checklist including bed occupancy rate, average length of stay, and bed turnover rate, based on the Ministry of Health standards, and analyzed according to the Ministry of Health standards using EXCEL 2013. The state of performance indicators in the hospitals of East Azerbaijan in terms of bed occupancy rate was average, and the state of average bed turnover and average length of stay rates compared to the standards declared by the Ministry of Health, was good. As the indicators states in the hospitals were average and good, so new strategies should be taken by the senior managers and administrators to improve the performance indicators in hospitals. Therefore, managers of the universities and hospitals are recommended to use the successful experiences of the managers of other hospitals and universities to improve the state of hospital indicators.
