The Role of the Islamic Revolution in the Emergence and Expansion of Interdisciplinary Studies in the Quran and the Sciences*

The glorious Islamic revolution of Iran, which was successfully led by Imam Khomeini (r) in Iran in February 1979, has had many effects in the political, social, scientific, and economic fields, among others. In addition, the role of the Islamic revolution in the emergence and growth of Qurʾānic studies has been impressive. As for interdisciplinary studies in the Qurʾān and humanities, there were no cohesive studies on the subject before the Islamic Revolution in Iran. With the blessing of the revolution, these studies were founded based on three approaches: the approach of interdisciplinary research (such as exegesis, monographs, journals and conferences), interdisciplinary education programs (such as the creation of doctoral program as well as higher level programs in Qurʾān and the sciences, and Islam and the humanities), as well as the approach of propounding interdisciplinary theories (such as an interdisciplinary subject-based exegesis, the miraculousness of the Qurʾān and theories related to it such as esoteric meanings, interlocutory and gradual abrogation etc.). Then, with the encouragement of the Supreme Leader (may he live long), and with the efforts of the seminaries and universities, these approaches have grown significantly.
