Explanation of the “Fact itself” in Allama Tabatabaie’s View

The interpretations presented for the ‘fact itself’ is due to an epistemological issue in explaining the truth of propositions with no objective or subjective counterpart. Thus, various meanings have been presented for the fact and the corresponding ‘fact itself. Based on his epistemological and ontological foundations, Allama Tabatabaie has presented a different interpretation of the ‘fact itself’, which is one of the new interpretation in this regard. Among the strong points of Allama Tabatabaie’s interpretation is, apart from resolving the abovementioned issue, its attention to ontological bases of the ‘fact itself’ after the principality of existence and full identity with it. According to the Allama’s opinions (extracted brom his bidaya, nihaya and his annotations to asfar), the ‘fact itself’ means existence and subsistence in the broad sense. This absolute subsistence includes three groups of subsistences:First, subsistence in those affairs that are truly realized, like the existence itself; Second, subsistence in those affairs that are regarded on the primary account of intellect, like quiddities; Third, subsistence in those affairs that are regarded on the secondary account of intellect, like secondary intelligibles.
