A Study of Journal Papers published from the Information Science and Knowledge Studies Master theses

These are one of the most important documents in the production of scientific information that their results can be of help to many issues. The purpose of this study was to determine the status of publications from the Master thesis in the Information Science and Knowledge Studies sector, submitted during 2001-2013. This study is a descriptive survey, which has been conducted using bibliometrics approaches. The information related to 1237 master theses were collected from "List of LIS theses at Iranian universities" and" Listhesis", as well as "Irandoc" website. Results reveal that in total, the average of annual growth rate for the papers published out of these were 1.13. According to the findings, more than half of theses (61%) remained unpublished, and only .39% of them resulted to the publication of 508 papers. The fact that more than half of theses in the Library and Information Science sector do not publish and the fact that more than one third of the papers extracted from theses in this field, are published in non-LIS journals, are warning for scientific policy makers of the field.
