Studying the status of Scientific Production of Iran in Science Citation Index after Islamic Revolution (1980-2016) and its Performance in the World science

This research aimed to investigate the status of Iran’s scientific production in Science Citation Index during the years after Islamic Revolution and compare it with the world’s scientific production as well as identify Iran’s contribution to the latter production as to each scientific fields in this duration. This research is applied conducted by applying scientometric methods. Research population included all Iran’s and the world’s scientific production indexed in Science Citation Index (SCI) during 1980-2016. Iran’s scientific production was 267626 items and that of the world was 40297747 during the time span. They were dealt with consensus method.
Yi index which considers various scientific branches in a country revealed that chemistry field (with 16.95% of Iran’s total scientific production), clinical medicine (with 14.84% of Iran’s total scientific production), engineering (with 12.80% of Iran’s total scientific production), physics (with 8.7% of Iran’s total scientific production) and material sciences (with 7.20% of Iran’s total scientific production) had higher ranks among the 22 scientific fields, respectively. Xi index which considers the global contribution of a country in various scientific fields showed that mathematics (.66%), engineering (.63%), chemistry (.57%) and agriculture (.53%) had higher than Xi of .05%, respectively. ...
