Abstract:
Road accidents are one of the most important causes of mortality and severe physical and financial damage. Therefore, the use of methods to reduce cost and fatality of traffic crashes is more than ever discussed. The main goal of this study is to investigate the effect of environmental, human and geometric factors on Qazvin-Loshan highway and its old Corridor during the period from 2011 to 2016 using factor analysis. In order to investigate the combination of parameters and their impact on the crashes, factor analysis is based on parameters that are known as independent variables. The results of the study showed that 14 variables affecting crashes in the studied corridor are divided into 6 main categories according to priority level. The variables that have the most impact on Qazvin-Loshan highway crashes are environmental factors (lighting, climatic and pavement conditions), while in the old corridor, geometric factors (type of area, geometric design and type of roadway) have had the greatest impact on crash occurrences.
