The Effect of Spirituality Therapy on the Attitude to Drug Abuse
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of spirituality therapy on reducing drug abuse tendency.
The research design was semi-experimental. Among the patients withdrawing drugs who obtained the highest score in the test of attitude to drug abuse, 30 subjects were selected using cluster sampling and assigned to experiment and control groups (n=15). The test of attitude to drug abuse byGolparvar was used as pre-test. 10 sessionson Spirituality Therapy were held for 80 minutes twice per week for the experimental group; afterwards each group was asked to respond to the questionnaire again. Finally, the obtained data were analyzed using covariance analysis and Pearson correlation coefficient.
The results showed that spirituality therapy did not have any effect on reducing drug abuse tendency. There was also a significant relationship between the tendency to drug abuse and the duration of drug consumption.
Using spiritual therapy along with cognitive-emotional interventions can increase its effectiveness. Besides, if the length of spiritual therapy increases, the therapy is likely to be more effective. However, in addition to the change in the mindset and beliefs of addicts, the physical damage caused by drug abuse should also be treated at the same time .
