Comparing Personality Traits of Athlete and Non-Athlete Students of Medical Sciences Universities

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to compare personality traits in athlete and non-athlete students of medical sciences universities of Iran. The research method was applied and descriptive survey was conducted as a field. The study population were all students of Universities of Medical Sciences of Iran. The sample size was estimated using Morgan table 384 individuals. For sampling, multi stage cluster sampling method was used as 192 athletes and 192 non-athletes were selected. To collecting data, personality questionnaire of Rentov et al (2003) was used. Independent t test was used for comparing these two groups by SPSS. Results showed that there is significant difference between athlete and non-athlete students in personality traits as athletes had more scores in extroversion, compatibility, emotional stability and openness to experience. There is no difference in conscientious. In conclusion, sport activities create statuses that reinforce athletes control on psychological traits such as positive personality traits.
