Abstract:

The study examined the relationship of applying principles of human relations by professors and instructors with sport achievement motivation of physical education students. The study population included all male and female students of physical education and sport sciences of Azerbaijan Shahid Madani University (N=252) and 160 subjects randomly completed Gohari (2011) human relations principles questionnaire and Gill and Dieter (1988) sports achievement motivation questionnaire. Independent t test and one-way ANOVA were used to examine the groups and Pearson correlation coefficient was used to examine the relationship of variables at P≤0.05. The results showed that although mean scores of applying principles of human relations and sport achievement motivation were above average, there was not a significant relationship between applying the principles of human relations and sport achievement motivation and its subscales. There was a significant relationship between athletic experience of students and applying the principles of human relations and sport achievement motivation (P<0.05). Also, there was a significant difference in mean scores of victory and goal orientation dimensions of sport achievement motivation between male and female students (P<0.05). Students' viewpoints on applying the principles of human relations were different based on their entrance year. It seems that sport achievement motivation in physical education students is associated with factors other than applying the principles of human relations by their professors. But given the importance attached to applying the principles of human relations, the observance of these principles by professors has always been emphasized and it will surely affect the development of other life and educational dimensions of students.
