Determining the Impact of Drug Trafficking on Border Security: A Case Study on Southern Khorasan

The Islamic Republic of Iran borders its eastern neighbor with the world's largest drug producer, and given that smuggling and exporting of drugs through Iran to Europe has always led to this, despite heavy costs. Economically, it will suffer the most security and law enforcement damage. In this way, Southern Khorasan province, due to its proximity to the main and almost absolute narcotics center in the world, has made it a special transit point for narcotics and one of the main transit crossings for narcotics. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of drug trafficking on the security of Southern Khorasan province by using correlation-analysis method and using library documents and one-sample T-test was used for statistical analysis of the results. Research findings show that drug production in Afghanistan has been increasing since 2001 and most of the production has taken place near the borders of Southern Khorasan, Sistan and Baluchistan, which is in line with Taliban influence and terrorist groups. The result of this study showed that drug trafficking has increased the number of drug traffickers and hooligans, the number of drug addicts and prisoners in the province and has affected the security of this province.
