Driving Behavior Comparison in Iran’s Metropolitan Cities Using Driving Behavior Questionnaire Case study: Tehran and Mashhad

Driving styles have been known as an effective factor in discipline and safety development in cities. Recently, identification the details of these factors and trying to improve the transportation system performance in regard to this field have been considered by many researchers in transportation. Current research has been done with the aim of comparative studying of driving culture and behavior of drivers in Iran’s metropolitans. Driving Behavior Questionnaire was used as a self-reporting instrument to examine aberrant behaviors in addition to positive driving 229 behaviors in major cities of Tehran and Mashhad. Respondents of survey samples were ones in Mashhad. Factor analysis of localized DBQ responds in major 90 drivers in Tehran and main factors including: 5 cities classified the structure of drivers’ aberrant driving behaviors to “inattention to driving rules”, “aggressiveness and hurry in driving”, “un-concentration and disobedient to others rights”, “inadvertency in driving” and “speed and rush”. The results of nonparametric tests for independent samples in case of comparing averages of different factors of behavior structure in two cities imply that there is no meaningful difference in driving behaviors between the two cities. On the other side, the results of developed DBQ questions comparison between sample groups indicate that all styles of driving are the same in two groups except two of them: “Using the reverse gear after passing the desired exit on freeways as a driving .”violence” and “letting others to pass in case of your own priority as a positive driving behavior
